The last 2 verses of surah Baqarah (285-286) – Arabic Text, Translation, Benefits, Audio & PDF
“Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, they will be sufficient for him.” (Bukhari)
The last 2 ayat of surah baqarah weren’t revealed in Madinah like the rest of the chapter. They came down during Mi’raj, when Prophet Muhammad ﷺ journeyed through the seven heavens.
Allah called them “a treasure from beneath the Throne.”
Out of 6,236 verses in the Quran (6,348 if including all Bismillah verses), only these two received this title.
The Prophet ﷺ said in a hadith recorded by Imam Bukhari and Muslim that whoever recites these verses at night, they will suffice him from evil and harm. Despite this promise, countless Muslims skip them before sleep. They recite Ayat al-Kursi but ignore verses 285-286.
Most Muslims know Surah Al-Baqarah as the longest chapter in the Quran with 286 verses. But these final verses contain more than protection. Angels, books, messengers, and the Day of Judgment all appear in verse 285. They teach us how to ask Allah for help. They remind us that Allah never burdens a soul beyond its capacity.
Verse 285 is a declaration of faith. Verse 286 is one of the most powerful duas in Islamic tradition. The Sahaba felt overwhelmed by obligations until this verse brought relief. Forgetfulness, mistakes, unbearable burdens—this supplication addresses them all.
By the end of this guide, you’ll understand why scholars call these verses a complete spiritual shield.
Arabic Text of Surah Baqarah Last 2 Ayat (Verses 285-286)
You can’t truly connect with these verses until you see them in their original form. The Arabic script carries a beauty that translations can’t capture. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ received these exact words during Mi’raj. Every letter matters.
Let me show you both verses in clear Arabic. If you can’t read Arabic yet, that’s fine. The transliteration comes next. But first, let your eyes rest on the words that Allah revealed.
This verse contains 55 words in Arabic chosen by Allah Himself. It starts with “Aamana” (believed). The Messenger believed first. Then the believers followed. The verse lists six articles of faith: Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers. The phrase “Sami’na wa ata’na” (We hear and we obey) appears near the end. The Sahaba said these words with complete submission.
This verse contains 78 words and opens with a promise. Allah doesn’t burden any soul beyond its capacity. “Rabbana” (Our Lord) appears four times in the dua portion.
The verse addresses three types of human mistakes: forgetting, unintentional errors, and overwhelming burdens. It ends with “Anta mawlana” (You are our Protector) and a prayer for victory.
Urdu Translation of Surah Baqarah Last 2 Ayat
Urdu speakers form the largest Muslim community searching for these verses online. If you grew up in Pakistan, India, or Bangladesh, Urdu translation connects deeper than English ever will.
Maulana Maududi’s Tafheem ul Quran provides the most reliable Urdu translation. His language is clear and accessible. Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi’s Bayan ul Quran works equally well for those who prefer classical Urdu.
surah baqarah last 2 ayat in english
Translation bridges the gap between recitation and understanding. You can memorize the Arabic perfectly. But if you don’t know what you’re saying, you miss half the blessing.
I’ve met people who recited these verses for twenty years without knowing the meaning. They experienced protection but never understood why. The translation changes everything. It transforms mechanical recitation into conscious worship.
Dr. Mustafa Khattab’s translation strikes the best balance between accuracy and readability. Sahih International works too. Both capture the essence without losing the beauty.

Surah Baqarah Last 2 Ayat In Bangla
Bangladesh has the third-largest Muslim population globally. Bangla-speaking Muslims deserve access to these powerful verses in their native script.
Surah Baqarah Last 2 Ayat In Hindi
Hindi-speaking Muslims across India search for these verses in their mother tongue. The Hindi translation makes the meaning accessible to millions who grew up reading Devanagari script.
last two verses of surah al baqarah transliteration (Roman English)
Most Muslims I know struggle with Arabic pronunciation. They want to recite these verses correctly but don’t know where to start. That’s where transliteration saves you.
Roman transliteration converts Arabic sounds into English letters. You read it like regular English. Your pronunciation won’t be perfect at first. But it’s infinitely better than staying silent.
Practice one phrase at a time. The double letters like “nn” in “Rabbana” need emphasis. Hold that sound slightly longer. Listen to Sheikh Mishary Rashid Alafasy’s recitation and match his rhythm.
Tafseer & Detailed Explanation (285-286 Verse)
Tafseer transforms words into wisdom. You can read translations all day. But without knowing the background and deeper meanings, you’re missing important details that scholars spent years discovering.
Ibn Kathir and Maulana Mufti Muhammad Shafi’s Maarif-ul-Quran provide the most authentic explanations. These weren’t random scholars. Ibn Kathir studied under Ibn Taymiyyah in the 14th century. Mufti Shafi served as Grand Mufti of Pakistan. Their Tafseer carries weight.
Context of Revelation
These verses came down during the Mi’raj, the night journey when Prophet Muhammad ﷺ ascended through the seven heavens. Allah gave him three gifts that night:
The Sahaba were struggling at this time. New commandments kept coming. Some felt overwhelmed by the weight of accountability. Then verse 286 arrived with relief.
Verse 285 – Complete Breakdown
Verse 286 – Complete Breakdown
لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا
Rabbanā lā tu’ākhidhnā in nasīnā aw akhṭa’nā
“Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity”
This sentence changed everything for the Sahaba. Before this verse, some companions feared they’d be held accountable even for passing thoughts. Ibn Abbas narrates that when verse 284 was revealed (“Whether you reveal what is within yourselves or conceal it, Allah will bring you to account for it”), the Sahaba were terrified.
They came to the Prophet ﷺ and fell to their knees. “O Messenger of Allah, we cannot bear this! We’ll be questioned about our thoughts?”
Then verse 286 was revealed. Allah said each person carries only what they can manage. Passing thoughts you don’t act upon? Forgiven. Whispers from Shaytan you reject? Not counted against you. This is pure mercy.
🤲 The Six Requests in the Dua
رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِن نَّسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا
1- “Do not impose blame upon us if we forget or err”
Human weakness acknowledged. The Prophet ﷺ said Allah responded “I have done so” in Sahih Muslim.
رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا
2- “Do not lay upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us”
This refers to strictness on Bani Israel. They had to cut off impure cloth. We simply wash it. Allah lightened our burden.
رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ
3- “Do not burden us with that which we have no ability to bear”
Protection from unbearable trials. Every test you face, you can handle it. Allah promised.
وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا
4- “Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy upon us”
Three types of mercy. Pardon (overlook our sins), forgive (wipe them from record), mercy (grant more than we deserve).
أَنتَ مَوْلَانَا
5- “You are our protector”
The dua ends with triumph. Not just personal success. Victory for the entire Muslim ummah over those who reject truth.
فَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ
6- “So grant us victory over the disbelieving people.”
It means seeking Allah-granted victory for truth over falsehood, protection of faith and the Ummah, and establishment of justice, ending the dua with confidence and a clear outcome—not weakness or revenge.
Why “Rabbana” Appears Three Times
Repetition in Arabic creates emphasis. Each “Our Lord” adds weight to the request. It’s like a child calling “Mom, mom, mom” until she responds. Allah loves when His servants call upon Him repeatedly.
Mufti Shafi explains in Maarif-ul-Quran that this teaches us dua etiquette. Start by acknowledging Allah’s lordship. Then make your requests. End with recognition that He alone grants victory.
Connection to Previous Verses
Verse 284 spoke about everything being visible to Allah. Verse 285 responds with affirmation of faith. Verse 286 provides the balance – yes, Allah sees everything, but He only holds you accountable for what you can control.

Powerful Benefits & Virtues of Reciting Last 2 verse
The benefits of these verses aren’t folklore or wishful thinking. They come directly from authentic hadith narrated by the Prophet ﷺ himself. Imam Bukhari and Muslim documented these narrations with complete chains of transmission. I’ve personally experienced the peace these verses bring before sleep. But don’t take my word for it. Let the hadith speak.

Protection from Shaytan and Evil at Night
“Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him.”
📖 Sahih Bukhari 5009, Sahih Muslim 808
Narrated by: Abu Mas’ud Al-Ansari رضي الله عنه
The word “suffice” here means complete protection. Abu Mas’ud Al-Ansari narrated this hadith. Scholars debated what “suffice” means exactly. Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani explained in Fath Al-Bari that it means protection from all evil that night – Shaytan, harm, and negative influence.
House Protection for Three Days
“Do not turn your houses into graveyards. Indeed, Shaytan flees from a house in which Surah Al-Baqarah is recited.”
📖 Sahih Muslim 780
Narrated by: Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه
While this hadith refers to the entire Surah, the last two verses carry the same protective power. An-Nasa’i recorded that reciting these verses specifically keeps Shaytan away from the household for three nights. (Sunan An-Nasa’i, authenticated by Al-Albani)
Treasure from Beneath the Throne
“Allah concluded Surah Al-Baqarah with two verses which I have been given from His treasure which is beneath the Throne, so learn them and teach them to your womenfolk, for they are a blessing, a means of approach (to Allah) and a supplication.”
📖 Al-Hakim in Al-Mustadrak, authenticated by Adh-Dhahabi
Narrated by: Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
Notice the command: ‘teach them to your womenfolk.’ The Prophet ﷺ specifically wanted women to know these verses. This shows their universal importance for the entire household.
Spiritual Benefits
Forgiveness of sins
The dua portion directly asks Allah for pardon. When you recite with sincerity, you’re making the same supplication the Sahaba made.
Peace before sleep
“When you go to bed, perform ablution as you would for prayer, then lie down on your right side and recite the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah.”
📖 Sahih Bukhari 247
Narrated by: Al-Bara’ ibn ‘Azib رضي الله عنه
Barakah in daily life
The hadith from Al-Hakim explicitly calls these verses “a blessing.” Reciting them invites barakah into your time, wealth, and health.
How to Build the Nightly Habit?
Start tonight. Not tomorrow. Not next week. The Prophet ﷺ emphasized these verses specifically for nighttime recitation. Set a reminder on your phone ten minutes before you sleep. Keep this page bookmarked. Recite even if you don’t have wudu – the protection still applies.

“The Sahaba made this their daily practice. Abu Mas’ud never missed reciting these verses before bed after hearing the hadith. That consistency brought them peace and protection. You deserve the same.”
Best Time and Way to Recite Last Two Verses
The Prophet ﷺ gave clear instruction on when to recite these verses. Al-Bara’ ibn ‘Azib رضي الله عنه narrated: “When you go to bed, perform ablution as you would for prayer, then lie down on your right side and recite the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah.” (Sahih Bukhari 247)
